Thank you for that info. Have you ever seen anything regarding the upf64r and 35psi? The only thing I have ever heard of was that rockauto had it listed as 35 many years ago and then removed the info. I guess I will use the pf64 until I can get more clarification, but the upf64r looks to be a much higher quality filter.

UPF64R is a Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid oil filter... It is NOT an upgraded oil filter for the C8. It's designed for 2-year oil soaks, per the Chevy Volt maintenance schedule (I used to have one).

If you want a higher quality filter, look at the Fram Ultra Synthetic XG12060: 99% efficiency @ 20 micron etc. etc. (and what I personally run in my C7 & C8)

I have never seen anything from GM or ACDelco stating that the UPF64R has a 35 psi bypass pressure. But I'd run a PF64 or a good aftermarket filter.

Quality Control on the Mobil 1 PF64 is at best average.

Do we see reports of engine failure attributed to a failure of the PF64?

Yes; one of the big magazines needed an engine replacement on their test vehicle due to a failed PF64.

The potential problem with running a filter with too high a bypass pressure is this:

IF the filter element gets clogged, and the bypass fails to open, your engine is going to be stared for oil. That's, umm, not good for engine life.

The LT2 (and LT1, and maybe some prior engines) needs a lower bypass pressure because it has a two-stage oil pump. During normal us, it pumps oil at a lower pressure, and only provide higher pressure when the engine is operating in range that needs it (e.g., high rpm, high load). So in low pressure mode, the LT2 won't open the bypass. The Volt, for which that filter is designed, has a single stage pump that is always supplying higher pressure.

If you change your oil and filter as called for, it's unlikely to actually be an issue. But why take chances?

One reported case.

I'm not terribly worried. And if I'm using the factory recommended filter, GM can't blame me if something goes wrong.
