Default Inspect/Replace crankshaft bearings with engine installed

Guys,

Would this technique work on our Z51/Z06 with the subframe in the way? Or is it mandatory to drop the engine?

If you can purchase the Engine Support Assembly tooling you might be able to do that although I don't know if you could do the same kind of bearing replacement on the GM LT small blocks as shown in the video.

J-28467-B costs between $100 and $700 depending on whether or not it is used or new.
J-41803-9 costs between $90 and $300 used, depending on which version is chosen.
J-42451-1 costs about $100 used
EN-28467-40 costs about $630 new

So figure somewhere between $1000 and $2000 to support the engine using GM tools.

If you can fabricate your tooling you could make your own at a lower cost but you would want to make sure it is as strong as the GM tools since you would be working under several hundred pounds of metal being supported by that tool..

You mean that with this tool I'd be able to support the engine to remove the subframe? That's an ingenuous idea, I could make my own tool!

Yes, in subsequent repairs they remove the cradle to replace an engine support bracket.
