What did you do to your C5 today?
Running Guns & Moonshine
Got a sunburn by spending the day on the Ram resto. It is far from done, but good enough to drive. Seat belts, alignment and registration are top priorities and then I can chase down the source of what seems like a distributor issue where there is no timing advance (electronically controlled). The rest is interior reassembly and just rounding the truck looking for pieces which need attention. The suspension is awesome. The brakes are very strong. And the look on my dad's face (mine too!) going for the first ride and then the first drive in a good fifteen years was nothing short of epic. A lot of good memories shared.
I can recommend a few products. Siless sound deadening mats (two different layers) for the floor have all but silenced the interior. I considered many options and went to the Borla Pro XS muffler in the 19" variety which is just one notch louder than factory (pretty quiet still) and has that same characteristic deep rumble I like. I have also never much paid attention to Snap-On tools but can say I have now been tempted or at least made aware that there are "better" tools out there to be had - though I deem them more apt if you are in your tools daily than if you're a weekend warrior.

A question on torque tubes...
..... If it has the heavy tension spring at the rear, does that guarantee that it should be an 01+ with the 12mm bolts? Were there some with the spring which were 10mm?

Made a late afternoon run to pick up the wife’s RX, some groceries, a can of spray paint from Ace Hardware, and most importantly a case of booze. Engaged the obligatory rip on the blvd., and that feels so good!
Much better than fixing sprinkler heads..

btr stage 3, 243 Z heads, upgraded rockers, oil pump, yank 3600 stall and z3.42 rear. Already have LTs, ls6 intake and Ti exhaust. Debating if I go full NA or super/turbo while I wait for my C8 Z. I’m in grand forks.

I'm also in Grand Forks. Should probably see you around sometime this summer then.

Went to do some data logging and noticed a small amount of very clean oil on the floor off center from the engine and around where the wheel line is. Could smell some oil burning when it warmed up. Upon further investigation it looks like my 22 year old, 105k mile motor mounts have decided to exit the chat.

Adjusted my MGW shifter. It got a bit out of whack some how. Took the console off and adjusted it. Put it all back together. Then moved on to the mini van I own. Replaced a front caliper. All done in about 2 hours. It was a nice day.

Leaky TPIS intake snout burned the **** out of the coating near the head/port. The coating didn't fail, just looked like ***. My OCD wouldn't allow the condition. I'm gonna send them back to Jet Hot to be re-processed. Once these are back from Jet Hot I'll sell them. Hell I can have them drop shipped from Jet Hot, if your interested...

Installed LMC5 on my 2000 as a precaution, never had steering column lock.
After install got the "Pull key wait 10 seconds" message about every 10th time I turned the key, so I did the brown-wire mod. No issues since.
I guess that really only affects 98-00's that have the relay plug above the BCM (that you unplug and do not re-attach) from what I gather. Of course I was one of the lucky ones
Simple thing to do though.

I cannot tell if my car has had the LMC5 installed. The steering column does not lock when I remove the key (it's a manual) but just before I stored it, I had one instance of "pull key wait 10 seconds". Here's hoping it doesn't pop up again when I drive it across the country.

Pull your passenger floormat and then the panel in front of the mat. Look at the BCM (big shiny box behind the panel) and if you see a black wire going to the bottom of the BCM connected with a screw / nut, you have the LMC5 installed.
The hole on the right of this pic will be on the bottom but that's the hole the black (grounding) wire goes to if you have an LMC5 installed.

I’ve had a 2000 M6 for almost a year now and I still need to install the LMC5 kit I bought. Last week after filling up at the gas station I went to pull away and got the remove key wait 10 seconds message and the computer killed the engine when I tried to pull away. Fortunately I was able to get it restarted and get back home. Sounds like a lot of people are going straight to the brown wire mod so I will probably so the same.
That aside having owned this C5 for almost a year it’s ridiculous how cheap these cars are for what you get. A friend of mine came over to help install the Borla S Type II exhaust and as a “thank you” I encouraged him do a few WOT pulls with the car. He couldn’t believe what I paid for it. I still have my C4 and I enjoy that car too but the C5 is a far better car for not much more money.

Pretty easy to see if its installed.

So LMC5 just fixes the steering column lock. If you get that message AFTER LMC5 is installed then you have to do the 'brown wire mod' which is an extra step. You have to take the BCM back out, remove the big pink plug then replace a dark-green wire with the brown one coming off of the LMC5. Then 'the point of no return' when you clip the brown wire loop coming off of the LMC5. Check this out:
