It is pitted from age and wear. I suspect this is a jack from a barn find, swap meet, or found in someone's damp garage where moisture was involved in the lower bottom half of the jack, causing the pitting. Previous owner of the jack painted over it with low gloss black. I have done nothing to the jack other than put it in my car.
I bought this jack years ago (as is) to get some NCRS points for having the right jack in my car. I knew when I bought it that it had condition issues and the jack is dated after my build date. So, I would get NCRS point deductions for Condition and Date but it was better than having no jack at all or having a reproduction jack that was worth zero points.
I have since bought another jack that is correctly dated for my build date thus the reason for selling this one. Not the best "sell job" but I value honesty and integrity.

Melting Slicks
Not questioning honestly and/or integrity at all. In fact, kudos for being transparent. My only concern was whether or not the oxidized material was completely removed and the bare steel etched and primed prior to being painted. Thanks!
