Default Help with oil pressure sender relocation

Here’s the parts list I used for my relocation mod:

I used a 6AN to 16mm x 1.5 adapter as suggested in the DIY thread.

The female end of the adapter looks like this, and the depth of the threads is 10mm.

The length of the threads of the sender is 11mm:

so the sender bottoms out before the crush washer makes contact. My sender is leaking.

No one in the other threads indicates this is a problem, and looking at photos from the other threads, the sender appears to thread in far enough to contact the washer.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this leak?

Do yourself a favor and install the sensor as per design. Removing the intake manifold is not that difficult.

I moved mine to the front of the block years ago when I did my cam swap. All you have to do is swap the plug and lengthen the wires.

Appreciate the response, but you guys are missing the point. I’ve already installed the relocation kit, and it will work fine as is. The problem is the sender doesn’t thread far enough into the fitting to seal the crush washer. It’s leaking from the sender threads.

The question is, for you guys that used a kit, how did you get the sender to seal up? I’m using the fittings recommended in the other threads and an OEM sender. Seems like others would have had the same problem.

I disagree, I think you missing the point. This work around solves the relatively simple task of removing the intake manifold, while creating several other potential leak points beyond the potential oil pressure sending unit failure (which may or may not happen) in the future.

I used a steel NAPA fitting and I believe we had some tape. It didn't thread all the way down. No leaks 5 years. We've done the same on HPDE cars, again no links, sensor failures after replacing the factory sensor every coupe of years and oil can leak through the sensor.

Maybe try a different “brand” of the female adapter. All manufacturers are not the exact same dimensions. Worth some research. Good luck.

Agreed and not all AN brands are of the same quality. Mine is a NAPA fitting in a brass looking color. NAPA used to keep a cabinet of fittings.

For others looking to put together their own version ICT billet now offers a M16x1.5 to 4an to thread into the block. I prefer 45 degree fitting to angle the line to the passenger side but both work.

For an immediate fix, I wrapped the sender threads 3x with teflon tape. Still not crushing the washer, but it seems to be leak free after two test drives. I've ordered another brand adapter to see if the thread depth is longer. For now, I'll just keep an eye on it. Maybe it will last long-term like yours, 93Polo.

Thanks for the helpful responses. Ignoring the comments from the peanut gallery.

Don’t forget oil pressure goes up with RPM. No leak at 3500 RPM may be non-indicative of 5500 RPM.

When I relocated mine I just added an extra washer or two. 2 track events in at 7k rpm and no issues.
