New tires..
I did do a search and I have no idea why I can't find a tire thread. But... I just went to Discount tires to get a slow leak fixed on the Vette. They told me my tires were 10 yrs old. They are still in good shape, but they said for safety reasons they couldn't touch them.. Fair enough.
Do I need to get some if its only a weekend car? I have Pilot Super Sports on now. I'm assuming pilot sport 4's is the best now? What do you guys think?

Yes, at 10 years old, the tires need to be replaced.

Good question. I'd direct you to one of my associates if he were alive. I heard some rhythmic thumping while we were driving. Nothing visible but I suggested changing the front right to the back right just to see if the sound moved. He refused. You see, the tires only have 15K (IIRC) on it and the car is garaged it's life. Sure, the tires were over 10 years but look at all the thread on it. He drove home later. He didn't make it home without a minor incident. The front right tire blew up on the highway when he was between 2 semis. Fortunately for him, he didn't hit either of them and all it did was take out the fender. So, your call.

That's not good.. I already made the decision to order new tires. Now, do I order them thru Tire rack or Discount tire? I'm guessing I'll pay a little more thru Discount tire, but they will probably install them for free.

Same company. I used to go through TR but they send it to an installer or I find one. I got mine from DT within 48 hours installed so....,. Personally I never cared for the "partner" thing. If I wanted to do that, I'd buy the tires myself and bring it to my chosen installer but why hassle with transporting 4 tires? Get them sent to the TR installer. I tried the GM dealer but while they match DT, they claimed they couldn't get it. I tried Costco but they would take a little over 2 weeks since it is about a week and a half away and would take an appointment. Discount Tire it is.

I'll probably do that also. I'll order them on Monday. They said they can get them the same day usually. We'll see. I probably can't do it til next Sat anyhow. I have weird work hours.

Agree with others who confirmed 10-yr tire lifespan, which is what Michelin recommends: "If the tires haven't been replaced 10 years after their date of manufacture, as a precaution, Michelin recommends replacing them with new tires. Even if they appear to be in usable condition and have not worn down to the tread wear indicator. This applies to spare tires as well." Discount Tire provides similar advice: "We recommend replacing tires aged 6-10 years, no matter how much tread remains."
They're somewhat interchangeable these days, as Tire Rack became part of the Discount Tire family a couple of years ago.

Don't screw around with your LIFE! Get new tires!!! Be careful and check the date code on the tires!! You do NOT want "new" tires that have been sitting in a warehouse for 3 years. I ALWAYS go to my local shop and they ensure the tires are a few months old MAX!

I can work with 3 years old. I also want a discount. Probably burn it up in a few years anyway. Way before the 10 years. BTDT.

Please get new tires! You realize a ride difference, increased stopping capability and safety. It is irrelevant if it is a weekend car or not. Your safety and your passengers safety is important.
