Exclusive to this edition is the Sebring silver metallic paint and light gray leather interior. The manually operated soft top is black. This time capsule is powered by a 330HP 5.7 liter LT4 paired to a 6-speed manual. It’s an all-original car with no noticeable flaws to be found anywhere. I don't pay sales tax when I purchase a car different than my home-state, but when I go to register any car in my home-state, regardless of where or whom I purchased the car from, my home-state charges me sales tax.....Why can't we all be like Arizona??? LOL

It's a private party sale of a 26 year old car. As far as DMV is concerned, you paid 5 grand for it.

If I remember correctly, New York would charge sales tax based on the book value of the car.
This may have changed since it has been several years (decades?) since I heard of this.
So you couldn't con the DMV into thinking you paid $100 for a C-8...

Then it’s a non running project that needs the engine rebuilt, paint, interior and suspension work. “I paid $6k for it and here’s the BOS signed by the seller”. A few years ago I sold an 86 for $3k. True sale price.

If were ever to decide to register a car in South Dakota they charge you tax on the price they appraise it at according to a book they use. I don't know what book they use to determine value.

They said my 91 high mile coupe was worth $8900 and charged tax on that amount ( 4% ? )

I told them if you have a buyer for $8900 send them my way. I would sell it in a minute for $8900.

But what if it's true? What if I bought a Vette with a blown engine that had been rear ended?
How fair would assessing it at market value in good condition would that be?

If I have a signed BOS from the former owner and it's notarized, they're not charging me book value. In NJ they don't even ask for a BOS. I filled out the sale price on the registration form. I had a BOS from the seller though. "Don't believe me? call him and ask him"
