Fill tires with nitrogen?

My brother in law just got a new set of tires at Costco. They filled the tires with nitrogen. He had a brochure that explained the benifits, which they claim include slower loss of pressure, more stable pressure over temperature ranges, and no moisture to cause corrosion. I did a search and didn't find any discussion of this on the board. Seems like a good idea to me...??? Anyone have more information?

We used to use this in the military also. It also prevents corrosion on metals.

everything the brochure said is correct but what happens when he does have to increase the inflation pressure .... pure Nitorgen is not available everywhere

and 78% of the air you breathe is Nitrogen already

They claim you can add plain air if needed, but of course you loose some of the benifits if you do that. The brochure also states that they will fill up any members tires with nitrogen, whether you purchased the tires at costco or not.

I've known racers to do it, but it seems weird to me that Costco would be doing this. Odd...

Nothing extra - part of their regular 'mount and balance' service.

that's pretty cool if he got it for free .... but, for a normal street car it is really not needed
