Default Backspacing. I narrowed the rear on C4 by 27mm, and the Grand Sport wheel fits..

perfect now. I want to put some Weld Pro Star or Xp wheels in the back and need to know what spacing I need to go. I have 1/2" inch spacers, very high quality, if needed. Steve

Hi,

Was it hard to narrow the rear? Did you do it yourself?

Any info would be great.

Thanks,

Steven

I have 12" and 13" wheels that have 8.25" back spacing. My 12" wheel with 335.35.17 tire and 8.25" back spacing is max inboard tolerance allowed under heavy G loads before the tire will rub the trailing arms. The GS wheel has 7.97" back spacing. 7.97" minus your 27mm (1.06") results in 9.03" equivalent back spacing. You might need up to a 3/4" spacer (but probably 1/2") depending on the tire size and useage. Why did you reduce the spindle width?

What year cars are you guys putting the Grand Sport wheels on?
The 17x11's will fit on all 88 through 96 vettes with no spacers.
I've had mine on an 89 and a 94 and they fit fine.
If the wheels you have are aftermarket and not OEM they could have
different backspacing, but I doubt it's enough that the wheels wont fit.

I narrowed the 93 spindle because with the Grand Sport wheels with 50mm offsets the wheel sticks out, hence the grand sport needing fender flares. SO , using a GM technical article that they used for "Big Doggie" the 454 big block 90 Vette they built with ZR-1 rims, which actually stick out another 14mm, I narrowed it using the 87 spindle which is 13mm shorter. So, the Grand Sport brings the 17x11 wheel in 14 MM further (becasue of its offset , 50mm I believe) than the ZR-1 17x11 (36mm offset), and the spindle job brings it in another 13mm, it is now a [erfect fit. No rubbing, even with a lowered Vette.

:bb I guess I didn't think about the wheels sticking out. That never bothered me. I always liked the look of those fat tires sticking out a little.

I bet your car does look good from the back now.

Could you send me some pics of the install as well. I tried the link at the bottom of your signature, but it says that I need a password to access it. Thanks!

I sent them to Steven13, and if he sends them back, I will see about getting them posted, with directions. I am in for the night, maybe Steven13 can help out, and or one of you can post the pics if he sends them to you all, as I will be out for a few weeks, and my pics are gone, well, I cant seem to find them on my old hard drive, as my new one crashed hard. Hi,

I have them in my email file.

I am not sure how to post them on this site but I will try.

If that don't work I can email them directly.

As I write this post it is snowing-expecting about a foot. This will back me up with work so give me a few days.

Steven

I don't know anything about it but Exotic Muscle sells a kit to do this however, some might consider it a bit pricey at $875 (C2670 REAR WHEEL HUB NARROWING PKG). CF member ROME has been working at developing a kit as well and I got the impression that it would be significantly less expensive. That was several months ago so you might want to contact him to see what progress he's made...

The package that Exotic Muscle does is the same thing I did. I paid around 200 bucks for the spindles as the rest is minor, ie washers. So , 850 vs 200. I think mine is pretty good. Steve

So where do we send the check for your kit? ;)

Seriously, I'd love to see the write-up if and when you've got the time and inclination...
