Kumho Ecsta MX Runflat or Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP RFT's...
Ok, looking for a set of replacemenet tires to the 'ol stock runcraps. Since pretty much any tire will improve my handling, ride quality, and tire noise, I'm pretty much down to price and treadwear. I'm a daily driver in Washington DC, so the car will see wet and cold - also, I need to get about 30,000 miles out of them (I don't drive very aggressively).
Will the Kumho Ecsta MX Runflat do the trick, or will they wear out before 30K? Also, are they ok in the cold? If not, I'll spend the extra bucks and go with the Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP RFT's.

For what you are looking for, go with the Firestones. The MXs are more for performance and probably are not that good in the rain. But either way, I think you will be happy.

The MX is a summer tire, so cold and snow arent the best for them. I have a set on my other car (non RF) And they are an excellent tire and do great in the rain. But for anyone who lives somewhere were it dips below 50 or so I cant reccomend a summer tire for year round use.

Never have tried the Kumho's, but the Firehawks are great tires. I had a set last for 50,000 miles on my 93. They handle great in the rain. Don't know how they work in the snow...if it snowed here in South Florida, it would be the dawn of the next ice age.

Check out the Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season Zero Pressure tires at Discount Tire. Wider tread, good wear rating, very quiet, better ride, good handling and they look really good. The price will be very comparable to the Firestones. You won't go wrong with the Michelin all-seasons. Ask anyone who's running them.

I got a set of BFGoodrich KDWS from summit $150 a piece + $5 for shipping. Treadwear rating of 400 so they should last pretty good, They handle pretty good for the street but they aren't race tires.
