Default Running on ONE new tire

Well, I picked up a couple of 4" nails in my RR tire. Only 17K miles on it. Discount Tire tried to fix it but said they could not plug two holes close to each other. So, I got a new Goodyear tire since the LR is a Goodyear. After spending the $350 if started to think about riding on a new tire with a old tire. Should I have replaced both rears?
At least I can make a case for having run-flat tires. I ran on the flat for about two days before I could get to the tire shop, no effect but I kept it under 50 mph.

I would be concerned if the "old" tire is considerably worn, as this might cause undue stress on the differential. It would act as if the car was constantly turning, due to the difference in diameters.
