315/35/17 on a 9.5 or 11" rim...contact patch.

Hey guys...

Just wanted alittle feedback here...my plan is to run a BFG DR - 315/15/17 on a 17x11 ZR-1 rim...my question is I realize some folks run the 315 on a 9.5" wheel as well.

Obviously the 9.5" rim is a good bit cheaper and easier to find than a 17x11" rim - However, am I correct in stating that a 315 tire on a 9.5" rim will offer a similiar contact patch as a 275/40 DR? Versus mounting the 315 DR on an 11" rim - thus, taking full advantage of the tires contact patch? Just wanna make sure i'm heading in the right direction - and not just blowing extra $$ on the 11" wide rim vs. 9.5" rim :)

315 is too wide for a 9.5 rim.....any tire company will tell you the same. :yesnod:

315.35.17 belongs on 11" minimum. I have 315 on 11" for the front and 335 on 12" for the rear.

The above 2 posts are correct, but never the less, I run mine on 9.5" rims. I keep the tire pressure at 22 lbs for a flat patch on the ground and it works well.

Be safe, go with the 17x11" (50mm offset) wide wheel! BFG 315/35/17
