Radial Tire BS?

I was told today by a tire shop owner that the rubber on radials will separate after about 5 years - even on a spare that never touches the ground. Any truth to this?

Were you shopping for tires?? Some tire stores will try any line of BS to get customers to replace tires if they think the poor customer will buy into their sales pitch.

It's like them telling you that you also need new shocks/tie rod ends/ball joints and just about any other component on a 3 year old car when you want to buy tires.
