A 265 would be a little stretched on a 10" rim. A 275 or 285 would work fine.
I'm running 285/35/18's on my 18x10 front wheels.

My Viper has 18x10 front wheels and came with 275-35-18 You can buy these tires (Pilot Sports) for $170 each shipped

Guys, I know a 275 would work fine according to the book, but from all the data I see, it looks as if a 265 would fit on a 10" rim, exactly the same way a 295 fits on an 11" rim.....
From Michlein Pilot Book :
265/35/18 fits Rim size :9.0-10.5
275/35/18 fits Rim size: 9.0-11.0
285/35/18 fits Rim size 9.5-11.0
295/35/18 fits Rim size: 10.0-11.5

Sidewalls on my 265s on an 18x9.5 look about the same as the 295s on an 18x11s as far as flex. However the 265 has much less sidewall to flex. A 275/35 or 285/30 would be perfect IMHO. I believe Porsche ran 18x10s and 285/30s on the rear of some 911 TTs.

Re: Tire size for front 18x10 rim? (93Polo)
I just put 18x10 on my vette last week to go with 345/30/19. I put a 285/30/18 pilot on. It looks good, Really low profile tire. My car is lowered some but not all the way. it needs to go down more. With such a small tire, it does leave some gap in your wheel well if you do not lower down the front to where the spoiler is about 2" off the ground. This is personal preference, not a big fan of having big wheel well gaps. If I would do it again, I would put on a 275/35 or maybe a 285/35, This will fill up the wheel well just a touch more then a 285/30. 285/35 is getting a bit tall. 285/30 is 24.7" tall, 275/35 is 25.6", 285/35 is 25.9" The 285/35 seems like it will be just a bit big, about the same as stock but much wider. when I replace my tire it probably will be a 275/35.

I find it hard to believe, (looking at Michlein's specs) that no one is saying it's OK to use the 265.....

I don't believe anyone isn't it isn't OK just not optimal. The short sidewall will be even shorter when mounted on a 10" wide wheel.

265 will work, but you asked what was better. So the 275 or 285 are much better especially if your talking pilot sports. Pilot sports tend to run narrower than a BFG KD or S02/S03 Potenza. A Potenza in a 265 will be as wide as a pilot sport 275. The varience from brand to brand is wild.

Re: Tire size for front 18x10 rim? (indypace78)
here are the facts ....
10" wheel
265/35-18 Pilot Sport
section width 10.7" .... which means .35" sidewall buldge on each side of the wheel which is almost vertical from the wheel which will allow for greater steering response because of less sidewall deflection.
275/35-18 Pilot Sport
section width 10.9" ... .45" sidewall buldge and slightly more deflection which does cause a minute delay in steering response on initial turn in due to the added deflection.
285/35-18 Pilot Sport
section width 11.3" .... .65" sidewall buldge and we can say the same thing about the added deflection.
Now the S-03 is typically wider than most other tires but it is not that much when compared to the Pilot Sport .... in a 265/35-18 size the S-03 is only .30" wider
In conclusion 265/35-18's will work fine on a 10" and with a properly tuned suspension it would be my choice in tire size. Now, if your car is not dialed in quite that well the 275 or 285 may be a way to go in order to balance the cars abilities a little better

Re: Tire size for front 18x10 rim? (Luke@tirerack)
Thanks for the clarification Luke!
You are the MAN!
It appears the difference is EXTREMELY MINIMAL, on using the 265 vs the 275 on a 10" rim!
Thanks for the help!!!! :smash:
And here's an [EDIT]:
Just got them mounted, and I think it looks perfect!
EXACTLY the same as when they were on 9.5's... :yesnod:
I'm sure as Luke points out there IS a slight, nominal, difference, but my eyes cannot tell a 1/4" difference in width or height...
I'm a happy camper..... :yesnod:

Re: Tire size for front 18x10 rim? (NastyC5)
go with the 265s definitely. 275s and 285s IMO are balloons for the front. Your steering response will feel so much better with the 265s.

No flame, but why do Vipers come with 275-35-18 on 18x10 wheels

Re: Tire size for front 18x10 rim? (NastyC5)
I've run 285/30/18's and 285/35/18s on 18x10 rims with excellent results. I like the feel of the 285/30's better but the harsher ride & the short sidewalls being more prone to pothole damage convinced me to try the taller 285/35's. These ride a lot better and seem to have comparable handling characteristics.
Next time,I want to try a 275/35/18. My guess is it would work great.
Seems to me a 265/35/18 on a 18x10 would be a dented rim waiting to happen. But,I've only been doing this stuff for over thirty years so what do I know?
It's your money,indypace.

Re: Tire size for front 18x10 rim? (USAZR1)
Not a problem with your opinion....
I have them mounted & at the same time compared them to a 275 mounted on my other rim.. I could hardly tell the difference, so I kept the 265's.
The tire place was nice enough to mount one of my 265's on one & a new 275 on the other for me to deceide...
The sidewalls are comparable, so is height & width. Any difference is nominal at best.

Thanks. Now we know a 265 can be mounted on a 10" rim w/o problems.
