Default How to / where to get wheel lip polished after powdercoating???

I am having a set of C5 wheels powdercoated either black or gunmetal gray for my Z28. I want black with a polished lip, but wil settle for gunmetal if I can't find a place to get the lip polished. Where, who, how much $$, etc? TIA, Shawn

Can the lip be shielded from the powder coating? Most wheels that have a polished lip are 3 piece so the center is anodized or powder coated, painted, etc then the polished rim is assembled afterward.

Also, you could powdercoat the whole wheel, find somebody with a larger capacity lathe (phone book, machine shops) and have them face off the outer lip. The aluminum would be unprotected, so you might consider adding clear coat.

the centers on these were anodized, machined, then clear coated.

I was told that they can powder coat only the spokes on a chrome Z06 wheel. I was also told that there is a 10% chance the chrome would bubble. I'll post some pics after I get it done.

I have been looking into the same thing so I have done quite a bit of research. From what I have found you can pretty much powder coat anything you want and depending on the quality of the person coating is what will determine the life of the piece. Also they do make a heat tape that they place over the polished area before they coat them. This tape will prevent the coating from getting on your polished areas. I have found one shop in STL that I will probably have coat my wheels. Price is $100 a rim.

From what I understand you can have pretty much any aluminum polished with enough time and effort. I am tiring to get some info on doing the polishing myself. Just seems to pay money for what I can do with a little effort is lazy.

This is not law just what I have found. I will let you know definite conclusions as soon as I do it myself in a few weeks.
