After looking on Tirerack, I came down to 2 choices: Bridgestone Potenza RE730 Gen2's and Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP's. I'm leaning towards the Firestone's but I love the looks of the Bridgestones and have liked their previous models.

Don't get either, go for BFG's or Michelins.
I have Firehawks, but I only used them temporarily until I could get my Pilot Sports. They have absolutely no straight line traction, and I'm not talking about me dumping the clutch, I'm talking in second gear I could still spin them.

I thought the Firehawks were the best tires I have ever owned. Quiet, great grip in rain and dry. I even wrote Firestone asking them if they were going to start making the 315/35s.
I've heard Kumho's are good for the price, otherwise get better if you can afford it. GSC's I've heard hit or miss. Same goes for the Pilot Sports. I thought my old Potenza's were ok but nothing great.
Haven't heard anything about the Firehawk's really. Least I haven't noticed anyway.

:iagree: Yep i just ordered sz50's from tirerack through work, I got a disount on them and my rep said i got the last two 285's. He had to ship each from a different warehouse. He said they would have more in on march 28th.

My new Kumhos feel like theyre glued to the road and Ive been pushing them HARD in the mountain twisty turnies. As I will be doing again in just a few hours. I think Kumhos rock! :yesnod: :blueangel:
I've got about 3K miles on the RE730's now including some rain time :cry . I've got no complaints and I like them better then the Goodyear Eagles they replaced. :D
Good tire for the $ methinks.
I have never owned either tire, but I have been tire 'shopping for 35 years. I have never been impressed by the Firestone brand, and all of the negative publicity about thier tires a couple years ago did nothing to help.
I had the Firehawks on my '93 LT-1 Coupe, and liked them alot. They were much better than the Goodyear GSC or the BF Goodrich that I had before. Very good tracktion on wet roads and not as noisy as the GSC's. They also had better wear.

I have run michilins, BFGs, Potenzas, Kumhos, Dunlop sp 8000.9000's Honestly for grip, the Potenzas and Kumhos are best. I'd take the kumhos first, cuz of the price, and because you cant rotate the tires (285s in rear 275s up front)
You just cant beat them, and they grip FANTASTIC for AUTOX, especially if you aren't running r1. the potenzas are a close second.
The firestone is not an option for me regardless of how good they are or might be. I can stand the wimpy tread width. :U I was wondering if it was just me because the pics DO look like the Firehawks have less width. Are my eyes just playing tricks on me?
Nope your eye sight is good. The 255 size even looks more wimpy. It's just a personal thing though. Sorry I want my vette to look like it has Lion paws at all four corners and not Horses hoofs. :D
