Whats the largest stickiest tire for 18x13 rim without tubbing for C5?
Eventually i am going to have my black stock Z 06 rims widened to 18x12 or 18x13 inches as i will need better traction for new 427 motor.
How big can i go without mini tub if i widen my rim to the above sizes? Are BFG Drag Radials, Nitto Drags or et streets or BFG KDs available in 335/35/18s or even 345/35/18s? I don't mind if they stick out some and want to avoid doing a mini tub b/c of the large $ involved.

No one makes drag radials in those sizes so I would just buy some xtra wheels and mount some ET Streets for drag racing.
No offense but you have spent all that money on your car but don't want to spend the funds to mini-tub your C5 so it won't look cheesy with huge tires hanging out of the fenders? Mini-tubbing can't possibly cost that much money as too many people have done it. You have too nice of a car to cheap out now. Go for it.

I have et streets and skinnies on ccw drag rims which i will most likely end up running almost full time for the street and drags, as i ran them on the street with 3K miles last season with no issues.
For an everyday highway tire, etc, and when i'm not running et streets, i definitely will end up tubbing (mini) with 345s on the rear, and prefer to do this, but just don't want to run up any more credit card debt at this time (if you no what i mean).
When the time comes and the present mods are paid for in full, then mini tubbing will no doubt be in order. Just want to see what my options are right now for my black z06 rims without spending any more $, and the new nitto drag radial (305/35/18) is looking like a strong option right now. Worse case scenrio i will be giving my et streets on ccw drag rims a real good working over!:D I promise you, i won't ruin or junk up the looks of my car in the meantime. Oh and by the way, it looks like minitubbing with prof. install goes for about $2,000.00 out the door.

I don't think you'll fit a 13" WITH tubbing.
11.5" is about your max width with a 335/30/18 without tubbing, but they will stick out slightly and offset is very critical. Tub it and you could go to a 12" or possibly 12.5" wheel, same tires or 345's, and keep it all tucked in.

You might give Haibeck Automotive Technology a call at (630) 458-8427. Marc is the LT5 Registry's Tech Editor and has a Corvette-only business in Addison. He might be able to mini-tub your car for less money than $2K. If Marc does it,I guarantee it will be done right. He is very meticulous.

He is in Addison, IL? That's 10 minutes from my home. I certainly will look into this b/c i really want to eventually tub and run 345/30/18 inch tires.

How much to widen a ZO6 wheel to 12inch?
I thought i saw a tech article on how to tub a C5?? it explains how to do it yourself.. :cheers:
I think 345s on the rear looks :cool: but it has to be tubbed

niice.. thank you... What is optimal tire size on a 12inch wheel, 335 or 345? i know optimal size for 315 is a 11inch wheel... :cheers:

Okay tubbing 101.
First off, I did the tub myself and it is not hard. On a Z06 body it is so easy it is a joke. The tub job took me and a friend about 5 hours. Here is a simple link that shows you how to do it.

An 18x11.5 inch rim can fit a 335/30/18 Pilot Sport tire with out tubbing. It will stick out about .25 inches.
An 18x12 inch rim will fit a 335/30/18 or 345/35/18 tire very nicely with a tub
An 18x12.5 is possilbe but will have to stick out just a tad. Maybe .15-.25 depending on the offset chosen. It too can run either the 335/35/18 or the 345/35/18.
BFG is going to make a Drag Radial in 345/35/18 come this summer :yesnod:
No 18x13 on a C5 if you want it to all be in the wheel well. An 18x13 would only work if you make .5-1 inch stick out. :nono:
Now you can also run a 345/30/19 on an 19x12 inch rim like myself, if you go with a custom built rim. If your comfortable with cut and welded rim then I say $200 per rim seems like a good price. I have all the proper offsets needed to make these wheels. If your serious about going with one of these setups, email me and I'll help you out.
