I recently installed 2" Offset Trailing Arms.....Does this mean I can install wheels with an additional 2" and still clear any suspension parts on the inside?.....In other words my backspacing is 4".... can I install a 6" backspaced wheel now that the offset allows for 2 more inches? :seeya Thanks Cappy
Okay 74droptop,
I'm ordering the 15X10 rims with 5" backspace.....this should keep me away from any suspension parts and still allow a 10 wide wheel to fit into my rear fender wells????? I'm trying to mount MT ET Streets 26X10.5 on these rims hope it all fits correctly.......Thanks for the reply.... :seeya Cappy
With offset trailing arms you can also cut the inner travel bumper bracket off of the frame you can gain a 1/2" more also have to relocate the emergency brake (done already on the offset arms), buy a shorter main leaf spring (difficult problem with the fiberglass units) one can be custom made, also exhaust mufflers a restriction. If you correct all of this you can run more offset beyond 5" but no more than 5-1/2 which can be done on at least a 81/2 rim or wider (10inch rim is 11" wide). If you get it wrong- use wheel spacers to bring it out without any harm as long as you have enough thread for lug nuts. Don't forget to account for the tire. Also the section width of the same tire will increase as you go to a wider rim.
Suggestion- take a big piece of cardboard and the tire O.D., Section width, Backspace and plot it out to exact 1:1 scale then cut out a representation of the actual fit (mockup) rotate it around on the spindle and see where you are. A piece of cardboard is alot less expensive than a set of rims and tires. Hope this helps ease your mind. Unfortunately because of the way they mounted the bodies. Check both side to be sure they are equal. I have seen a tire/rim combo work on one side but not on the other side of the car. Take it easy. Derek

TCracingCA,
Thanks for the good info....It appears I'll be safe with 26" tall tires X 15 inch rims....10" wide and 5" backspacing....Welds Pro Star plus Wheels have these sizes in stock.....I'll try that cardboard thing first to be absolutely sure I won't end up with wheels for sale at my next garage sale.... :D :seeya Cappy
