any issue putting radials on plain old 62 rims?

Im looking for new tires and wheels but will likely start with just the tires. Is there any problem putting 225-70 on an original 15x6 rim?

Somebody told me that the rims for bias ply had a different lip and might not work well with radials. Anything to be concerned with?

The base '62 wheels are 5.0" and there was a 5.5" option that came with the dog dish hubcaps because the wheel covers wouldn't fit.

About the only modern radial option for 5.0" wheels is a 205/75R-15, all of which are all season low or no speed rated low performance tires.

If you want to go to a seventy series, I'd suggest some clone '67 6.0 inch Rally wheels that have +0.060 offset, and your wheel covers should fit. These will handle a 215/70 or 225/70, but 6.0" wide wheels are at the bottom of the recommended range for a 225/70. Tires in these sizes are available in V and W speed ratings including three 225/70s that are marketed to police agencies as pursuit tires.
