A Corvette friend asked me to post this inquiry. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. (dupe of topic in C5 General Discussion)
I have a 1998 Corvette and am looking to upgrade my 1998 rims to the 2000-2002 5-spoke high polished style rims. I have a few options and would like anyone's opinion regarding the following:
1. Corvettes of Houston - can purchase chrome reproductions, w/o core exchange, for $1195 (includes logo decal, center caps and lugs)
2. Extreme Motor Sports - can purchase chrome reproductions, w/o core exchange, for $1295 (includes center caps and lugs - no logo decal)
3. Local dealer - can purchase new (or almost new) 2002 GM rims, with 1998 rims as core exchange, for $1200 (includes center caps and lugs).
I am curious about anyone's dealings with Corvettes of Houston and Extreme Motor Sports regarding chrome reproduction rims. Also, whether the GM rims option is a good deal considering the dealer will accept 1998 rims as a core exchange.
I've seen preowned 00/02 oem rims for less, most with 1,000 mi prestine cond., can't think of the vendor but will post when it comes to me. They were selling for about 400.00 a rim no core. I purchased two sets of oem chrome rims from Corvette Mike with no complaints, chrome perfect.
After market/repo I purchased (2) 18X10.5 chromed rims from EXtreme that had numerous imperfections. They were ready to make good on them by refund or replacement, but commented that this 18X10.5 repo carried this chrome defect through most of them.
Hey why not another chromer? Dont get me wrong I'm not flaming these guys they were nice to work with and I think their hands were tied on the chroming process. Also they said this was only inherant with the 18X10.5 00 rims.
Hope this helps and remember..BUYER BEWARE..... :yesnod:
I just put the chrome Z06 on, 9.5 front and 10.5 rear....the chrome isn't the best but, it's a looking wheel on the car, a 98. The problem seems to be finding the Z06 size tires in other than Goodyear F-1 Super Car. Other brands have close to right but the back seems to be the problem to match, 295 - 35 - 18.....just my .02 worth...

Try the BFG G-Force KD, 295/35/18 they are about 345.00 each and an awesome tire IMHO......... :yesnod:
I just got 2000 rims from Extreme for my C4. They look great, and I have no complaints. We'll see how they hold up. I think the chrome is warranteed for two years.

The problem is not finding one size or the other, but finding a tire manufacturer that offers both the front and rear Z06 tire size in the same tire model; 265/40-17 and 295/35-18. I am only aware of two that have this exact match: Goodyear F1 Supercar (OE tire) and Pirelli P-Zero Assimetrico(sp?)
If you want to match diameters, then your choice in BFG GFKD would be:
In this case at least they have a front tire that, though not exact, matches well enough. Most of the other tire brands don't offer the necessary sizes to match up the front & the rear.
