Default Potenza S-03 Pole Position on Z06 stock rims???

I have the stock 2002 Z06 rims arriving this week, and I have been searching for tires. I have looked at the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar and the Toyo Proxes T1-S.
What I really want is the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position. These appear to be the best all away around. The only problem is they do not come in P295/35 for the rears.

I'm thinking about going with them in the following sizes:

P265/40YR17 front
P285/30YR18 rear

I don't know much about tires and could use some advice. Would this setup be appropriate (17x9.5 front 18x10.5 rear Z06 rims), or would this cause problems

Appreciate some advice and guidance.

Im currently using the S-03 Pole Position and love them. Im running a 285/30/20 rear and a 245/35/19 front. They are the best tires I have had hands down. The ride is smooth and not nearly as loud as the run-craps. Handling is better too. I dont think you can go wrong with these tires.

As for the sizes your looking at...im not sure but I will calculate the overall diameter and let you know if they will work or not.

Ok the following are the calculations for over all diameter as I worked out. Im not a math wiz so you might want to double check but I think they are close...

Stock C5 Diameter
245/45/17 front------- 25.681
275/40/18 rear------- 26.661

Yours
265/40/17 front------- 25.346
285/30/18 rear------- 24.732

After looking at the above you can see that your choice might not be the best due to the rear being smaller over all than the front. This will most likely affect your ABS, Traction Control System, and maybe your Speedo too. The onboard CPU looks at the sizes of each to run its systems and the difference needs to be as close as possible to the stock set up.

As I said you might want to double check my numbers and info but I think im on point with this.

Good luck.

Sorry didnt know it was a Z06, thought you were getting Z06 rims on your C5.

The calculations is done like this.

265/40/17

265 x .40 = 106
106 x 2 = 212

17 x 25.4 = 431.8

431.8 + 212 = 643.8

643.8 / 25.4 = 25.346 overall diameter

Thanks for the advice, comments, and e-mails. Everyone has been very helpful.

Since I've already shelled out 1200 on the rims, and will shortly drop 900+ on tires, I'm simply not in a position to upgrade to 18's all around (although I'd like to!).

Will now have to decide between the Goodyear's and Toyo's.

Searching through the forum it appears that it's almost a 50/50 split on which one to go with. I think the only advantage one manufacture has on the other is price.

Many thanks!

I have the Potenza 03 285/30/18's all the way around and I love the way they feel. The only problem you might run into is that your front tire/wheel diameter is going to be larger (about 1/2") than your rear tire/wheel diameter and this may not handle or look right.

The Bridgestone spec sheet lists the diameters:

265/40-17: 25.3"
285/30-18: 24.8"

The Z06 SCCA autocrossers run the Kumho Escta DOT race tire as a rain setup using 275/40-17 front and 285/30-18 rear; they pretty much kick everybodies butt in the rain with that size combo. However, if the diameter difference is a concern, you could drop back one size up front for a closer fit without giving up much:

255/40-17: 25.1" diameter, 9.4" treadwidth
285/30-18: 24.8" diameter, 10.5" treadwidth

vs:

265/40-17: 25.3" diameter, 9.7" treadwidth
285/30-18: 24.8" diameter, 10.5" treadwidth

I'd say it's pretty much your choice.

ps: it's always better to use the manufacturer specs rather than a calculator, the size rating is an approximation at best. You can usually find the specs on http://www.TireRack.com

Mark
