Default split in my new tire

I've had my new Potenza's from tirerack on for exactly one week. Yesterday I'm getting gas and I notice this in my left rear tire.

It's about an inch and a half long and about 1/4 inch deep. There is no leak in the tire, so it's not all the way through.

How concerned do I need to be? And if it's a problem, is there anything I can do or do I have to spend another $240 to replace a 7 day old tire? I have no idea when or how it happened. Could have been there from before the tires were installed or it could have happened right before I noticed it.

send it back to tirerack. I would think they would give you another one free since it is defective. Give tirerack a call and see what they say.

Maybe your local tire shop can make the change for you. I would think Bridgestone would cover the cost. :yesnod:

I spoke with my sales rep (Buddy) at tire rack. They're gonna send out a replacement first thing next week. Still gotta pay the $30 to get it mounted and balanced, but thats a helluva lot better than a new tire.
