Re: We need more Chrome wheels for the Vette
You can have almost any alloy wheel chrome plated, it might cost you $150 to $200 per rim. So there is really no shortage of chrome wheels, it's just a matter of how much you want to spend. :D

Well, many will perhaps disagree with me on this. I love chrome. When they are cleaned and shined, nothing looks as good. But there can be drawbacks of having a wheel chromed. I'm speaking of peeling and flaking. In many cases, its more of a matter of elementary laws of Chemistry and physics. that is, the Bonds of certain Metals just won't hold up under extreme heat conditions. For the most part, its just a matter of time when the bond breakdown process occurs. I know many of you will say, "Oh man, I've had my chrome wheels for 25 years and the wheels are fine." Some people have luck with these things. Others do not. Since its a science, noone can always pinpoint when things will happen, irregardless of who does the chroming. . In fact, I remember chroming my wheels on my Black TA in the 80's. Nothing looks better than chrome wheels on a black car. Guy charged me only $450 !!! I knew it wasn't going to last but I wanted to sell the car in the next few months and wanted something to make it look good. Turns out I kept the car for almost 2 years and nothing ever happened to the chromed wheels. But the car before that was a 280z and 2 wheels flaked. The car after my TA was a 944 and had a similar peeling experience after a year. Had my my 2cnd corvette chromed too and once again, ran into a problem with one of the wheels. Even on my C5 (The only reason why I got chrome on the C5 was because the C5 factory wheels were so hideous looking) 1 wheel peeled in the first year. Fortunately the guy honored the warranty but not without resistance. So far the other wheels have held up. But in my mind, polished wheels are the way to go. Maintenance is much easier and you don't have to worry about the possible things that can go wrong with chromes. JMO

Maybe you should have just gone back to the guy that charged you 450.
You know its funny, I actually looked for him even though it was so many years ago. I remember exactly where where his Miami shop was but its not there now thats for sure.
