245/45/17 on a 8.5 wide rim????

Is this 8.5 wide rim to wide for this size tire? i got a good price on this size 245/45/17 but now the rim i'm looking at is 8.5 instead of 8" wide. Does anyone know if a 99 C5 rim will fit on a 84 Camaro?? My backspacing is 4.5 " so......someone please help!
