Default KDW2's or UHP's

Curious what everyone's thought's are on the 2 tires. These would be for a regular C6 in these sizes. I am putting the tires on a new set of wheels I'm buying. The wheels are 18x10 and 19x11. The bacak spacing is correct to run either size tire.

I was going to go with the Goodyear run flats but they just aren't my favorite tire in the world. I'd rather go the route of a can of fix a flat, plug kit, and mini air compressor i think.

The 2 tires I'm looking at are:

BFG G-force KDW2's
255/40/18
295/35/19

General Exclaim UHP's
275/35/18
325/30/19

About the BFG
I run a set of KDWS's on my other car and like them a lot. My friend runs the old tread pattern KD's and he has never had a problem. He is actually on his 2nd pair. The first pair lasted a long time and handled good. I have no experience with the KDW2 however. I'm not 100% sold on the style of the tread pattern but if it is a better tire i'll deal.

About the General
I really don't know much about these tires. Honestly I have never heard of them. If i got them they would be my frist pair.

I have read the reviews on both tires and both get pretty good reviews. Some people complain the BFG's are too noisy and wear fast when others say they have no such problems. The generals actually get good reviews with only a few people saying the sidewalls were soft but others claim not to have any such problems.

I read most of the reviews from tirerack.com really only looking at the corvette drivers. Aside from the few sidewall complaints on the generals (by a few I mean maybe 5 or so) they seem to get a better review.

My driving style is more of a cruising style. I drive my car and my father drives it. I don't drag race or autocross. Occasional hard acceleration is possible but I don't slam through the gears or lay rubber all over the place. I expect some hard cornering here and there but i would say less than 30% of the time. Annual mileage on the car I'm estimating to be around 1500 miles.

I have the KDW2's on a '87 Supra, '07 Mini Cooper S and had them on a ' 02C5 Corvette. They have all held up well. Good dry traction both straight line and in the corners. Wet traction has acceptable, been is some real good rain storms and the tires hold the road well, no hydro-plaining. I have not had any drive time in the snow since I am in Alabama. The only complaint I have, and it is minor, it the road noise. After some miles they do seem to make a little more noise than most. For the price I think the BFG KDW2's are a good option.

They do seem to be like a good tire. After seeing the generals on some cars I would not get those. I don't like the way the tread meets the sidewall. It looks like something you would see on a more off road style tire.

I ordered my wheels this week but they are going to take 5 weeks to get. The wheels I ended up going with aren't as wide as the previous ones i was looking at. They are 18x9 and 19x10. So i will only be able to run a 245 or 255 up front and a 285,295,305 out back.

I could still run the KDW2 but being able to run a 245/285 combo opens me up to a lot more options. I have to take a re-look at what else is out there now. The Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval RFT's seem like they might be a good choice as well.

I would say now it woudl be between the

Firestone Wide Oval RFT's
BFG KDW NT's
Toyo T1R's

BFGs all the way.

Personally I am not a fan of the General. Very very noisy plus a little too hard.

Ideally if you have the funds go with PS2 Michelin. Or Nitto Invo. Nittos are nice and quiet. Good on dry, not the best on wet but on a Vette what is. Nittos also tend to wear out a little faster than others. But for the cost its your # 1 choice

SO!

1 - PS2
2 - BFG
3 - Nitto Invo
.
.
.
.
.100 - General UHP
