Will this tire fit my wheel?

I want to mount a 275/40 tire on a 8.5" wide wheel. The tire manufacturer indicates this size tire calls for a 9 to 11" wheel. Is mounting the tire on the 8.5" wheel a bad idea?

It will work.


Tires will bulge out a little on the sidewalls.

But you will not have any problems.

Each tire company has a little different overall width and carcass measurements also so it may look good on that rim.
