I am looking for a new set of tires for my vette, I was looking at yokohamas AVS Sport, just need to know if anybody has any experience with this type of tires, please help. Thanks
I was looking for the stock size 275/40/18, I'm currently running Dunlop SP9000 285/35/18 on the back, but the tires seem a little to small for the vehicle, I was at the local tire store (DT) asking on prices for stock size run flats and this is what the came out with
Eagle FS1 EMT $340.00 plust tax and balance, total for 2 =845.00
Yoko AVS run flat $320.0 plus tax and balance, total for 2= 791.00
this seem a little to high, but I've never bought run flats before, does this look right?
I have them, I like them a lot. They are so much QUIETER than the stock Goodyears, and thier handling is about the same. As far as dry traction goes, they seem to be a little stickier.
I have them in 265-30-19 & 285-30-20 I like them a lot. They handle much better than I thought they would. I have 10k miles on them and their still in good shape :yesnod:
I put on a set of 4 Yoko AVS ruflats yesterday - They are quieter, grippier, easier to turn at slow speeds, and absorb bumps softer (probably because they are Z rated). But the jury is out on their handling at high speeds. So far, I felt safer with my Goodyears in high speed curves (maybe because of their stiffer sidewalls). For example, I could do 125 MPH into a curve on bridge with the Goodyears (drifting a bit), but I only felt comfortable doing 90-95 today with the Yokos. Maybe I just have to get used to them. Also, maybe I could corner better with the Goodyears because they were worn/slick, Rick
I heard a new set of tires take about 500 miles of driving to break in properly. One of the CF members recently had an accident experience at the drags because his tires were not broken in. His second trip out he said the tires worked great. I don't remember which tires he had but I think all brands need the 500 mile break in.
I expect you are using the correct tire pressure in the new tires.
