Default What did my shop do!!!

I decided to paint my calipers this past weekend (black with red) and found that one of the back left lug nuts felt like it was cross threaded. It took forever to get it loose. Once I got it to the point I could spin it freely - it refused to come off, like the tread post was still attached. I ended up putting the other 4 bolts back on again and taking it back to my shop and told them they must have cross treaded this nut when they put on my new tires two weeks ago. Well, they fixed it already - needed to use a power hammer to get the nut off but left a mess on my rim. The chrome is worn down to a copper looking color inside the lug nut area. Can this be repainted? Can I tape up the rest of the wheels around the affected area and spray paint this chrome or hand paint it?? It doesn't look all that bad and I really don't show my car all that much but the rims where not cheap and are only 9 months old.

The shop also noted that it felt like 4 bolts on the right rear where also cross threaded. This is impossible because (please correct me if I'm doing this incorrectly....), losen up the bolts w/the factory wrench, jack up the car with a floor jack, fininish removing the bolts, do what I need to do, put the tire back on again, take my 17mm socket, hand tighten all the bolts, lower the jack, then torque 100lb each lug nut in a star pattern.

I guess my main question is this - can this rim be touched up in the affected area? Its not real bad but since I know its there - its just gonna eat at me until its fixed.

Thanks!!

Looks to me like they owe you a replacement for the rims they chipped up :yesnod: Your sequence for wheel removal and replacement seems ok. They did mess up and need to make good to you. Remember the Better Business Bureau (sp) if it goes sour. :yesnod: :seeya
