Default 275 series tire, how much HP?

Guys,

How much power can you put to the ground on the street with the 9.5in rim and a good 275 series tire/drag radial? I have T1-R's now.

I'm expecting ~420rwhp and would like to plan ahead if traction is going to be a problem.

Thanks
al

At that HP level, you will be able to smoke any tire be it a street tire or a R-compound tire. My 02 coupe with a Vortec blower has 443 RWHP and even with Active Handling on, my old Toyo T-1S tires would simply go up in smoke.

If you are looking for handling, then there are a number of good street tires that will work to make the car handle, but big HP numbers are not always a consideration for handling on the street.

And FWIW, I would not personally consider a drag radial for street use if you are going to be tossing the car around in the curves or doing autocross or track days. Drag radials typically have a softer sidewall and that could cause handling issues considering that the front tire would have a much stiffer sidewall.

You might want to look at the Kumho Ecsta XK or the Falken Azenis RT-615. Other examples might be the Nitto NT05 or BFG KD's (pricey but very sticky in the dry). Tires like these will not have great wet performance and use on ice or snow is not recommended at al by their manufacturers.

Thanks...

The T1-R's have a rating of 280 as compared to Nitto555's 300. Bit softer, we'll see how they hook?

I realize I probably wont be able to put the gas to the floor like a do now. I'm more concerned about potential for breaking loose at the shift points...that could be really dangerous.
