Default Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3 alternative?

My '87 is in need of new sneakers as I have not really driven it at all in 2+ years and it has been sitting outside all this time. The existing rubber is showing signs of dry rot and cracking. It's a shame too since there was plenty of rubber left on these tires and I absolutely loved them.

Anyone have a good (cheaper) recommended tire that compares at least a little bit to the Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3? I took a look at Tire Rack and I just can't justify $1,114 before shipping and mount/balance for a set of the same tires today for a car I can't even remember what it feels like to drive anymore.

I have grandsport rims so I need, 275/40-17 and 315/35-17.

The only other non-competition tire Tirerack looks to offer is the Sumitomo HTR Z. There is the Kumho Ecsta XS, but it is brand new and without any comments yet.

Have you looked at the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta? There are a few members running them and they are available in both 275/40-17 and 315/35/-17.

A fellow club member is running them on his 01 Lingenfelter twin-turbo coupe and really likes them. This company has them but they are in SoCal so shipping to you would be a chunk of money.

According to the Vredestein website, there is a dealer in Peabody that carries them.
Direct Tire and Auto Service
231 Andover Street Rt 114
Peabody MA 01960
Telephone: (978) 532 5400

Do a search on Vredestein and there could be some online sources besides the CA company.

One downside to these tires is that they are narrower than other tires especially in the 315/35 size. But from what I have heard so is the Sumi tire at least compared to the GS-D3

Sorry for hte late reply! I'll have to check those out. They have a somewhat similar tread pattern to the Goodyears. Peabody is right up the street from me.
