Default M/T ET Street Radials have sunken indentation middle of sidewall on one side of tire

Just got these today and one side of the tire sidewall has this sunken indentation all the way around the tire. Its only on the inside of each tire but being they are directional it shows on the outside on one tire and it really looks like crap. The tire guys all were bewildered why the tires have it on one side.

Anyone else have the same thing on theirs or know whats its purpose is?

One of the tires had a sticker on the side saying "first tire" Turns out these size was the first off the production line. Hope they didnt ship too many out.

I've never seen that before.. That doesn't look normal or proper to me and if it was my car, I would not trust my car at the strip doing 120+ with a tire like that. Call the shop you got them from and show them these pictures. see what can be done.

Good Luck

Sent pictures to m/t tech and they just called me and said get em off the car!

Well the tires came off and my old Nittos back on till the new Nittos get here. Discount tire was very fast and no hassle at all returning them for a credit and ordering me the Nittos I need.

I took a short quick romp on my favorite back road twisties befre taking them off and man the car was all over the place rearend wise and correcting for that threw the front end all over the place. I am not willing to give up my handling for better straight line accelerating traction compared to my Nitto RII's or ill end up wrecking the car on the back roads with these. I guess I'm kinda glad I had to return them and get some new Nittos instead.

Apparently I got the first 2 of these particular new sizes off the production line according to the stickers and id on them. M/T said it looks like the sidewall "stiffener" on the inside portion of the tire mold didnt get enough rubber or whatever.

I am happy with everyones responses and quick resolve of the problem from M/T and Discount Tires.
