after a long wait and many calls, e-mails, and requests we finally have official confirmation and some pricing from Michelin of the new Pilot Sport PS2 ZP's.
The Pilot Sport PS2 ZP (Zero Pressure) is Michelin’s Max Performance Summer run-flat tire developed for selected performance sedans and sports cars. Initially introduced as Original Equipment (O.E.) on BMW 3 series sport package cars, the Pilot Sport PS2 ZP has recently expanded its O.E. applications to include Michelin’s first Corvette fitment on the highest performing production supercar in Chevrolet’s history, the 2009 Corvette ZR1. The Pilot Sport PS2 ZP is designed to combine world class dry road traction, handling and cornering, however it is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The Pilot Sport PS2 ZP molds an advanced tread rubber compound into an asymmetric tread design featuring Michelin’s Variable Contact Patch to keep more tread rubber on the road during a variety of maneuvers. The tread design features large outboard shoulder blocks and continuous intermediate and center ribs to provide a solid connection to the ground for control during cornering, braking and acceleration in dry conditions. The tread design also features wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches that help channel water through the footprint to enhance wet road traction. The tire’s internal structure includes two steel cord belts that are further reinforced by size-optimized, spirally wound polyamide to improve steering response and resistance to distortion while enhancing ride quality and high-speed durability. Pilot Sport PS2 ZP tires incorporate Michelin's newest generation of run-flat technology including a heavy-duty rayon carcass reinforced by rubber zero pressure sidewall inserts.
In addition to the Pilot Sport PS2 ZP tires developed for the 2009 Corvette ZR1, Michelin will also offer run flat replacement tire sizes for selected Corvette C5 and C6 models.
Pilot Sport PS2 ZP replacement tire sizes for the C5 Corvettes include:
Front - 245/45ZR17 95Y ($284.00)
Rear - 275/40ZR18 99Y ($407.00)
Pilot Sport PS2 ZP replacement tire sizes for C6 Corvettes include:
Pilot Sport PS2 ZP Original Equipment tire sizes for the 2009 C6 Corvette ZR1 include:
Front - P285/30R19 (87Y) ($545.00)
Rear - P335/25R20 (94Y) ($634.00)
even though Michelin is estimating arrival in August you might want to get your set reserved now as this is going to be a very popular tire so, here's a Corvette Forum specifc link to The Tire Racks' tire page for ordering your set. Again, if you want to get a set on the way use the link supplied or call me directly.
I had a set of ZP's installed on my car today at the Tire Rack in South Bend. I can't tell you how much of an improvement they are over the stock Goodyear run flats. I can not believe how smooth and quite they are, it is like driving a completely different car. And doing business with the tire rack is a experience in itself. First class operation all the way. Can't say enough about them.
Luke@tirerack, I sent you a PM about tires needed for my C5. At some point I will also need them for my C6Z06 also. But the C5 is on top of the list for now. I keep looking for them at the TireRack web site but no luck yet.
UPS delivered my Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP's today! I will be haveing them mounted, balanced and installed next week on my C5. I noticed they can be seen and ordered at the TireRack.com now. Now when my C6Z06 needs some tires (rears getting close now), I'll be getting some Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP's for it also. My problem with the C6Z06 is the fronts are still good so I might have to go one more set of the OEM Goodyears for the rear one more time then replace all four with the Michelin's. I don't think it would be good idea to run front Goodyears and rear Michelin's and I hate to just throw away the front tires that are not worn out yet. Eventually however, will be all Michelin's on the C6Z06.
Great tires. I am very pleased with mine, bought from another vendor.
the ZP version was not available at the time of your post so, you ended up with the standard version which is also a very good performer but, not the tire being discussed here.
nothing other than what Michelin told us in the springtime meetings ... which wasn't much more than promising that they will be better and available before 2009
I just got a set for my C5 they just came out a couple weeks ago. I'm still waiting for the OEM sizes for my C6Z06 to come out, they just say stay tuned for those. They say C6 sizes you mention suppose to be out Oct. 1, 2008. Here are a couple places with some of that information I found on the Michelin web site.
