Default Best Way to Ship Wheels & Tires??

Hi Folks:

Need Suggestions on best way to pack and ship a near mint set of very low mile sawblades with tires. My seller is in NJ and the local UPS store does not have 26"x26"x12" boxes. They can be ordered through various Internet Shipping suppliers for around $3 each but requires a minimum quantity of ten and due to the oversize of flat collapsed boxes it requires motor carrier freight at $100. If the seller asks the UPS Store to make special boxes to fit the packing and shipping costs could get pretty expensive. Someone suggested we try pallet shipping but have never had any experience with that. Anybody been through this to recommend something here?

Thanks, Greg

You could also try either U-Haul or Fedex Kinkos for large boxes. I was able to buy large enough boxes from U-Haul when I shipped a set of rims and tires last year.

I was shipping 275-40-17 WS6 rims and although I had to stretch the box a bit to fit properly, they arrived just fine. I also used duct tape to cover the face of each rim with cardboard as an extra precaution.

By the time you actually box them up and get them to wherever the shipping location is however, the box will probably already be pretty beaten up (from being put in your car or truck and from when you tape it up) but it's more for protecting the rim from scratches than anything else.

Also, Fedex ground is considerably cheaper than UPS.

Hope this helps,
Christopher

Get some cardboard boxes that when opened up will cover one side of the wheel and tire. Lay a wheel on one piece of card board and draw a circle around the outside. Now cut 3 more. Put one circle on the face of one wheel and tape it. Put wheel in heavy duty trash bags, and duct tape the hell out of it. Then take them to UPS. I had no problem shipping this way. I believe shipping was under 100.00

24x24x24 boxes worked for me. Just squeeze them in and it is a common size.

go to your local appliance store and get a couple of washer/dryer boxes. Cut to size. They are free too, unlike Uhaul. Deflate the tires for shipping and save a little weight.

If you have a friend with a business account with UPS or Fedex, it is way cheaper.
