I just mouned on my 2001 C5 a set of used EMTs taken out of another 2001 C5. Well, I don't know if it's the tires or something else, but they are VERY noisy! The noise starts at about 15 miles/h and gets progressively worse! I had the tires checked and everything seems fine. Checked the bearing too, just fine. The tires have been perfectly balanced with stick-on weights. The job is superb. So, what gives?
I know that EMTs are not the quitest of the tires, but we are talking out-of-this-world noisy. What could be wrong? This is the first time I have change the tires on my car.
Re: EXSESSIVE tire noise. What gives? (Hellraiser)
Hey Andrew! I got rid of my run flats and the noise went away. Until a month ago I ran the Nittos. They are inexpensive and grip like you would not believe. Much better than my Michellin Pilots. Get you a set of Nittos and get a 12vdc tire pump from sears. It even fits in your small well in the rear. Your car will ride as good as an STS Cadillac.
Re: EXSESSIVE tire noise. What gives? (vette-crazy)
I was told by a Goodyear dealer due to the aggressive tread pattern the noise increases as the tire wears.I had a set of run flats on my 95 it was so noisy I took it to a G.M.dealer to have the rear end checked. He said all the noise was in the tires.Changed to a set of Goodyear Eagle Ultras and it was like riding in a different car. They are really noisy if they start to scallop. That is get a wavy feeling to the tread area when you run your hand over it.
