Default C6 Wheel swap question?

When swapping out a set of rims, can the sensors be swapped over too (off the stock wheels?)

Sorry, I am a first time vette owner

Yep!

In the stock wheels, the sensors are mounted in the valve stem holes. Some after market wheels don't accept the sensors in their valve stem holes and the sensors have to be mounted inside the wheel with a band or bracket. What wheels are you going with?

Each sensor has a unique ID#, and the TPMS computer in the car knows which # is registered to each corner of the car so the DIC can properly report the tire pressures. When you remount the sensors in your new wheels, get the shop to put the sensor from the Left Front in the new wheel that will go on the LF, the sensor from the old RF into the new RF, etc. If they do that then they won't have to do the "relearn" process to re-register the sensors with the TPMS and your DIC will display the proper pressures. If they mix up the sensors your DIC might say "LF 31 psi", but if that sensor was switched to the RR then the DIC is really telling you what the RR pressure is.

It isn't a big deal if they mix up the sensors - they should have a tool to do the relearn procedure and it only takes a minute or two.

So....if you're just getting a new set of wheels that you will be running all the time, just remount your old sensors in your new wheels.

If you're getting a set of wheels for track tires and you'll be swapping regularly, there are some other other possible issues about running without sensors. If you do swap wheels/tires regularly and both sets have sensors, you'll probably want to get your own tool to do the relearn procedure when you swap.

Then you'll have no problem!

Below are pictures of the sensor in a stock wheel:

Although you won't need to reset the TPMS if your sensors are mounted back on the same corner of the car they were originally on, you can click on the video link below to see one of the various types of sensor reset tools in use:
