Default Rear Tire Wear

For rear tires on a C5 with the same air pressure and a correct alignment, could I expect one tire to wear sooner than the other? (I'm trying to figure out why one tire--the right--has less tread than the other. The wear is even across both tires. They were purchased and installed at the same time. Total miles are about 20K; 800 of those are from HPDEs.) Thanks!

I noticed the same thing. The right rear is more worn than the left.

I noticed the same thing on my 2001. Bought the car just recently with new Michelin tires. Drove the car only about 500 miles before it took a trip to Indiana, Putnam Park. (300 miles) Did a HPDE (my first) so I didn't really drive that hard. Went to Bowling Green, then home. Total trip was 2,000 miles. Took the tires off for a cleaning and was shocked that the right rear had a lot of wear from the center to halfway to the edge.

If you are talking about the driver's side tire as being the "right side" tire then all I can think of is the weight of the driver being on that side with no passenger. That's where my rear tire is wearing out.

Driver = left; Passenger = right.

So, no. I meant the other side to your problem. But, thanks anyway for the input. Happy post-Thanksgiving!

Road courses are mostly right hand turns. The inside tire (right side) is un-weighted during cornering. It might have something to do with that the inside tire spinning a little more frequently and wearing quicker.

I rotate my tires from side to side after every event. I can't say that I have noticed any difference. I always try to put the tires with the best tread on the left side of the car.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

The tires I have are directional and I had them rotated (on the rims) and rebalanced. About $30.00 ouch!
I'm going to invest in 'track' tires, don't know what I'm going to buy, yet.
