Default Tire and wheel guru's - Help Requested

I'm looking at c6zo6 wheels in c5 offsets from one of our forum vendors.
The question I have after playing with the wheel calculator and the tire rack's extensive listing of tires, dimensions etc. is this an appropriate fit or am I missing somthing?

Wheels Tires

18 x 8.5 245-45-18
19 x 10 285-35-19

I was kinda hoping I could go a little bigger.

Tires I am considering are BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2, any comments, recommendations or insight is certainly welcome. Thanks in advance.

I don't think that combo of tire sizes will work too good with our AH/TC systems. Usually a taller front tire sends the system into fits. The general rule is a 3% difference front to rear with the rear being bigger. I would consider going with the 255/40-18 and the 295/35-19 in that make of tire.

Good luck on your decision,

Bigger front is a BIG no-no. The 3% pertains to deviation from factory diameter, not difference front to rear, where 1/2"-1" is needed.

I dunno who came up with that 3% rule. Urban legend as far as I can tell.

A lot of people run same diameter 17's or 18' front and rear. I run same diameter 17's front and rear and can't see that it ever had any effect on ABS/TC/AH either on track or driving on street.

I am running C6 Z51 Goodyears on my C5 on 18x9.5" and 19x11" CCW's. I got a day to test drive and all systems were o.k. .

By the way, fronts should be 245/40/18 not 45 series. This combo matches the C5 almost exactly, maintains stance and keeps the EMTs. If you want to dump the runflat, I think the BFG KDW2 is available in these sizes too.

From what I have read about the 3% diff front to rear, this is where GM set the difference on both Coupe/vert and Z06. This isn't so much a rule but a guideline to keeping the AH/TC happy. Some, as you have mentioned are running same sizes without issue but some have reported AH/TC issues when getting close to the same front to rear. One thing is fairly certain, a bigger front will cause issues. This will show that that the rear is turning faster than the front at all times causing the AH/TC system to think the rears a losing traction/ spinning. My understanding of the 3% is it gives the AH/TC system a small amout of rear tire spin before it kicks in. This is just information that I have picked up over the past years, mostly from the forum, and is just my opinion which shouldn't be confused with fact.

Let me see if this right, fronts 245/40/18 and rears 295/35/19.

Yup, that will work. Could do the 255/40-18 on the front if ya want.

It will work with no issues at all. You might consider 285x35x19 on the back and you will be able to run the OEM C-6 EMT tires which are much better than the original C-5 runflats.

don't mean to hijack your thread, yaknow, but to add another twist to this question. . . I'm at about the same point, trying to decide the right tire/wheel sizes. I'm looking at the C6ZO6 wheels in 18 X9.5 and 19 X 11, and putting the C6 size tires on to keep with runflats. But looking at the Firestone Wide Oval runflats. Anyway, tire sizes would be 245/40-18 and 285/35-19.

My question is, while the tire specs say the 245/40-18 can be mounted on a 9.5" wide rim, the section width is just 9.4". Will that be stretching the bead too much? I don't want the rim sticking outside the sidewall of the tire.

Any thoughts on that angle would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,

Given the size of the wheels you are looking at I would run Z06 size tires or even a 305 in the rear. The 245 on the front would be a bit small on a 9.5 rim although it will work, just not sure how it will look or how performance will be affected. JMHO.

I am in the same delima. I am looking at C6 Z06 18x9.5 and 19x11. What sizes in order to keep run flats? 275/35/18 and 325/30/19 (will that work?)

Does anyone know if Black Chrome is available for these wheel sizes?
