Does a 275/35-17 tire even exist? I'm not aware of that size being made (at least by the bigger mfrs.).
As to whether either tire would fit a 8.5" width wheel, it will go on, but almost all 275 width tires spec out a minimum of a 9" wide rim.

best i can figure is..... it one inch per side or a total of one inch tire width more than the rim?
think i may have to go 285/30/18's all around
would they be OK on a 9.5 rim?
hoosier charts says 10 inch but the next size up 295/30/18 hoosier says 9.5 is ok...maybe a typo?
stock is 275/30/18...seems like you could squeeze a 285/30/18 on there

285/30 is way too low diameter to run on the rear, and too low in the front also. You want to stay within 3% of OEM diameter. A 285/35/18 would work, I use that size Nitto RII on my front and 305/35 out back. I run the 285s on 9.5s, though a 10 would be better

i am tying to run all 4 tires the same and yeah it looks like i am going to have to go 18's because the 17's i got are too skinny
i am still trying to see if i can get away with 275/40/17 on a 8.5x17 rim, but it looks hopeless

They will fit, but will buldge and not handle or look good as good as they would on a bigger rim and you will loose contact area.

i may use the 4 17's in 245/40/17 size for street-maybe- and then use the 4 285/3018's for de events
