So I know the offset is different, but what does that mean. I've heard some say there are no issues, others say don't do it?
What issues do I need to worry about? These are the standard wheels, not the z06. They are on a 2001 C5 coupe.
VinceC5, I did this on a friends '01 C-5 Coupe.
Stock C-5 sizes are overall identical to C-6. DIAMETER wheel and tire
C-6 TPS will not work on C-5's but C-5 sensors will work in C-6 wheels and vice versa.
1. There are no computer or speedometer issues.
2. AH, TC, ABS, will work without problems. Stager is fine.
3. Front wheels will bolt on and fit, run, and look perfect.
The rear wheels are the only issue. Since I have only tried this with one car I can't be called an expert. The rear stock C-6 wheels on the C-5 that we tried do not fit perfectly.
The problem is the increased offset and the additional sectional width. On our trial C-5, the rear wheels had MINIMUM clearance between the tire and the inside fender well. There are other Forum members who posted that there were no issues and I can't argue factually with their results.
If my results were typical, to put C-6 wheels on a C-5 will probably require a spacer for the rear only of approximately 1/2" and change the TPS.
Bob,
Thanks for the information.
It is very helpful.
I see some chrome C6 wheels on my C5 in the near future...
You are welcome Vince. I am sure there are lots of repros in C-6 style with C-5 offsets which would mean that you could do without the spacer in the rear. From a resale standpoint I think I would prefer the factory C-6 in chrome.
I have OEM C6 wheels on my 99FRC. Heres a few pics
5/16 spacer (if i remember right) less than 1/4 inch-still hub ecentric
spacer on the rear was not necessary but looked better
99FewteRC5,
Thanks very much for the information. I have a set of comp gray wheels with just under 1,100 miles with the much better C-6 Runflats mounted on them that I would like to offer C-5 owners for sale.
I am guessing that the 5/16th spacer did not require studs. Is that right?
Also, can you tell me, (and it would help Vince above) where you got that spacer. I would like to buy a set and include that in the deal to a C-5 owner as a package.
You are correct. I did not replace the stucs. They are factory studs. I dont remember where i got the spacer, but any auto supply store or even wheel and tire shops should have them. The spacer is less than 1/4 inch, the one i have may be in millimters. But around 5/16. Just get one that is a tad thinner than 1/4. I've seen these wheels installed on C5's without spacer also.
No spacers no problems. yet, 06 OEM polished..... OPP'S, inside tire rub had to go with a 1/4" spacer.... Seems to be fine now......

wow i came here to post a thread asking this exact question I guess that covers everything for me too. Just one question though, does adding a spacer have any side effects at all? I remember dealing with offset on a honda way back and was told that it may cause uneven wear on the ball bearings. something about the wheel puts more pressure on the outside bearing than the inside one. maybe this doesn't apply to vettes, also i recall it had to do with the front wheels. Does anybody know anything about such a thing existing?
ok one more question maybe someone can answer this one. to anyone who put c6 wheels on their c5, was you car lowered? Mine's lowered on stock bolts, i'm guessing since the overall diameter is the same that it wouldn't affect it, but have to ask anyway.
good to hear
btw i just did the calculations on both cars' stock tires diameter and the C6 wheel with tire is slightly bigger in the rear and front, not by much, 1/2 inch, at the most it might register 1 click slower on the speedo, no big deal.
Ok I'm not going to make a new thread about this but just an FYI for anyone thinking of putting C6 wheels on their C5, I just came back from my mechanic and at least in Ontario and I would suspect maybe other states and provinces, putting spacers on wheels is illegal. Unless, you put a spacer kit that basically extends the hub and is a whole bolt on assembly.
My mechanic explained to me that you couldn't pass a safety test, required here, and you apparently would be denied insurance coverage should a wheel come off or an accident happens due to the modified wheel. I don't know how big the "real" risk is, but you may have some problems with the legalities at the very least. I wouldn't worry about it if you have them on already but if you're about to you may want to check it out. Just throwing it out there for those that may need it.
