Default Dedicated Race wheels

I have lots of questions but hopefully this thread can help more people than just me...

1. Do most of you that are into racing or HPDE's and have wheels dedicated to track events use smaller than OEM wheels to save on cost?

2. What size do you recommend for a '06 C6 Z51.
OEM
Front - 18 x 8.5
Rear - 19 x 10

3. Does it mess up the speedo?

4. Are all 4 wheels the same size? (All 18's)

5. Do you run without pressure sensors in those wheels?

6. Are most wheels offered by vendors mainly for appearance and not intended for track use?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Default Track Tires

I have a 2006 C6 Z51 and I run with track tires. I bought a set of wheels from someone who changed his C6 wheels when he bought the car and paid $300 for the set of four. There are lots of these for sale as people sell the stock wheels to buy more bling.

I bought Michelin Sport Cups tires - big, expensive mistake. I would not recommend them to anyone. There are very few choices for race tires but I plan to go to Hossiers next.

I don't use tire pressure monitors since I trailer my car to the track and I take the stock wheels. Without a tire pressure signal for a hour the C6 puts the car in cripple mode and limits you to 55 MPH. Keeping the stock tires in the pit next to the car fakes out the on board mommy and lets me run the car without have to pay $400 for a tire pressure setting tool and avoid the hassle.

Just a few tricks you might want to try.

How do you get the tires to the track? Do you have a trailer? These are not street-legal, are they?
