Default Do you use wheel locks?

Just curious...

The factory wheels/lugs don't have locks but I know lots of people go with aftermarket stuff.

I just got a set of DPE wheels and used the factory lugs so they aren't locked.

Do you guys that get aftermarkets generally get locks or what?

I have a C6 by the way...

GORILLA lugs and locking lug nuts looked 100% better than the oem polished lugs on my '04 Z16. The chrome is much nicer than oem. They have a better design/appearance profile than oem. The locking lugs are in the middle of the shank instead of on top like some oem locking lugs. I'm still using my oem polished wheels, but I've always switched to GORILLA for any vehicle I've owned. DISCOUNT TIRE always has them in stock.

I use McGards, and 2 locks per wheel. That way, if somebody tries to be a d**k, and mess with the other lugs, at least the car can be rolled around or on to a flat bed for the ride home.

I get them directly from McGard, two sets with the same "key", so I automatically have a spare key.

I don't bother....
That is what insurance is for...
I rather let them take them than get annoyed and do more damage to the Vette

That's assuming that the thieves in your area are nice enough to set your car down on stands when they're done....

Since the C4 Corvettes came from the factory with locking lugs... ...I've kept them on my HRE's.

Default Wheel locks?

I am considering adding wheel locks to my wheels just to make it more difficult in case some xxxxx decides to mess with them or make them their own.... I checked some posts and went to the net and then to fleabay to check and guess what.... I found master key sets going pretty cheaply on fleabay so what's the point? If you can drive a smaller socket on the lock or just buy a set of masters for a small up front charge to steal three thousand plus a pop, a lock probably won't slow them down much. Probably like most house door locks, they just keep honest people honest and the crooks already have you beat before you install the locks. After all they don't care if they ding the nuts or even the wheels a bit, since they are going to "wholesale" them anyway and the buyer will get such a good buy a small flaw may not bother them at all. I may still get a set of locks, but now I don't have much faith that they will slow anyone down much who is intent on taking my wheels. It is nice to think it won't ever be out of my sight as some say, but if you ever travel and stay overnight to an event or vacation.... you have to sleep sometime.....

Default Amazing total BS?

What does your comment mean? I was quoting prior posts about driving a smaller socket onto some locks to be able to take them off, and I personally saw several master sets of wheel lock keys listed on fleaby today, so exactly what do you mean by "Amazing total BS"? I am not sure since some manufacturers state not to use two locks per wheel due them not being hardened you couldn't drive a smaller socket on any lock and remove them if they are not a hardened material.

I believe you - am surprised that there are master sets available.

Default Me too!

As was I. I was considering purchasing a set from a vendor having a very nicely priced sale, when I saw a post stating they rusted. So I did a fleabay search of McGard wheel lock and up popped master key sets, one for Ford and I think one for GM, if there are two on now, how many have sold the past year or years. I thought, WOW, you would think these would require a valid dealership or retailer license to own and would not be available for sale to the general public, some of whom aren't so honest. The previous owner of my 02 just put some nice chrome nuts on the car, but no locks. Seems like the locks are a good idea, but may not be 100%. Of course nothing is and they may get PO'd as another post said and do damage to the car itself?

Many tire stores in the NY area use use a type of stripped nut remover to take off all anti theft lugs. It is because of theft accusations. If their nanny cam shows that the employee never went into the car looking for key/socket then any gone goodies from in the car can't be blamed on the store. Any tool truck sells them. They work with any wrench.

Do you have a web address? I can't find it in a Google search. Thanks, David
