I had the GM slotted and drilled rotors installed, but the installer did not paint the rotor hats first, so after a week they looked like the rotor hats in this car:

Notice the nice rust accents??
I brought it back to the installer and they painted them silver. Now, after a year the rust is showing through. I think I want to paint them black. What prep must I do and what paint do I need to use?

Broke down and painted the rotors this weekend, black. Took a wire brush and got all the rust off. Hit it with some brake cleaner, taped off the wheel wells, and used high heat (1200 degree) black spay paint. While the wheels were off they got a got cleaning too. Easy access, you know? Took it for a drive this afternoon to clean up the overspray on the rotor surface. What a difference! Black was the way to go. Total cost of project : $9.00 and 4 hours in the Florida sun!

Thanks! Just to calrify, the first pic is not my car, just a pic I found that shows what the new rotors looked like one week after installation. I does look like the Colona shipyard though.
I took it back to the installer, and had him clean them up and paint them silver. Looked good for a while, but then the rust began to show though. I should have taken a "before pic" Now the I am happy with how the rotors look (black) but it contrasts how much the calipers need help now. Having a green car, my color choice is a bit limited, so I will paint the calipers black. Will post pics afterwards.
Question on calipers. I know I can paint them without removing them, but wonder how to get the raised CORVETTE letters done right. I am thinking: paint the calipers, use a flat razor blade when the paint is still a little tacky, then hit it with some clear coat so THEY won't rust out ina couple days. Will that work, or is the clear coat not required? The letters look fine now, and seem to be bare metal.

I removed my brake pads, clips etc and pulled my calipers away from the rotors but left the lines attached. I used masking tape and newspaper and taped off around the area incase of over spray.
I then took a wire brush and cleaned the calipers. I then used brake cleaner over a bucket to make sure they were clean. I then used high presusre air and dried them.
I then painted the caliper and waited for them to dry. After they dried I took a file and filed off the paint on the raised caliper, in my case the word "Mazda".
Blew it off with high pressure air again and painted it with clear coat.
That was four years ago and they still look good. I used over the counter heat paint from Advance Auto along with the same companies clear.
