Ah,
I SHOULD have said " I figured a search OF CORVETTEFORUM would have turned up this info, but ..."
I called CCW and got a price that was lower than everyone else, and they were the only ones that said they had spacers less than 1/4" thick. So it was a no-brainer.
I'm only worried that the price is SO much lower than everybody else, that I am missing something. I told Melissa there what I had and what I was trying to do, and she said that she had exactly what I need. But at less than half the posted price of the other web sites, I'll have to wait and see...

They will be fine from CCW.
John and crew put out good stuff and there are more than a few folks that road race with a lot thicker CCW spacers w/o issue.
Just make sure you let me know when your on the road with them.......I don't want to be next to ya

Oh, it's not that I have a problem with bigger spacers. It just that I am afraid that on my particular car, that if I go too much more than 1/8" then I'll start rubbing on the OUTER side of the fenderwell.
After talking with a few clueless vendors around here, I asked Greg Koteski where to get tires mounted and alignment done here on the southside and he pointed me to Rex Harris's shop. (I see why Greg recommends him. He obviously has multiple clues sorted and orgainzed) Rex told me that I would probably need spacers when he put he wheels on (and he was right) and he also told me to make sure to get less than 1/4 inch to avoid going too far the other way.
Now, I admit, the REAL solution to this whole situation is to mini-tub the car. But that will have to wait until we get back from our two week trip to Europe in 45 days.
For an idea of what you can expect: Stock wheels, studs and nuts grab onto 10 threads. With 3/8" (.375") spacers, stock wheels and nuts grab only 2 1/2 threads to hold the wheels on. Not enough! Spacers are OK if you use good quality longer length studs. Racing studs have thread that comes nearly to the end of the stud, so you get even more grab than the stock setup with 1/2" spacers and 1/2" longer studs. Doug Rippie makes spacers that have a hub extention which is usefull to give your wheels stock type hub support.
David.
But, in my case, I am using very thin spacers, as my tires were just barely touching at full suspension-travel. IIRC: The man who mounted my tires (who owns a by-appointment-only tire and alignment shop speciallizing in high-performance applications) told me that when I was installing my tires that 3 threads was an absolute minimum and if I had more than 4 full threads of engagement, I should be fine (also keep in mind, this is a DD). When Installing I had just a few degrees shy of 5 threads before I had any contact (finger tight) and once torqued down I was at almost 6.
David,
Thanks for taking the time to post in the thread. Adding safety tips to threads that people might be searching is one of the things that make s this place so great.
It so happens that your info supports the info I had already received, and I myself should be fine. But looking back, I probably should have mentioned this incase anybody searches for spacer info.

Fozzy:
Thanks for adding the info about the 4 thead min. I was inaware of what the minumum was.
I am currently using spacers on stock (thinspoke) wheels so that they come flush with the outside of the wheelwells instead of having the fenders sticking out past the wheels.

Yeah, I can see that in your profile pic now that you mention it. - Looks pretty sweet. Do you have any better pics of it?
What size spacers did you use to get them there? How close are you to rubbing on the outside?
I currently have 3/8" spacers and they are just right for the front, but the back needs 5/8" to be just right. I am thinking about the DRM spacers with the center hub lip for the rear.
There have been no rubbing issues on my car, even with 275x40x17s on 9.5 wide rims I ran for a while on the front, but my car is not lowered. I don't know if that would make a difference, but my tires have never rubbed, even when transversing steep driveways at an angle to keep my spoiler from rubbing very much.
