Default How about the Kumho Ecsta SPT's?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=ECSTA+SPT

Can anyone report with their impressions on these? Wet traction, wear, road noise, cornering/handling.

Thanks, Brad

Im considering these for my 94 C4. I've been trying to find someone who's got them to see if I can get a real life report other then tire racks.

Everything I read suggests they are a very good tire.

But comparing the spt to the MX, it looks like the principal difference is the blocks and patterns in the center of the tread

This could be a better rain tire than the MX (though I have never had a problem with my MX's in the rain)

Looks like it has the same compond and construction as the MX

I am ready for new shoes, but I think I will stay with the MX's, they are fantastic

seeya

I must agree, I was tempted when I looked at the prices, but when I looked at the UTOG wear ratings, it seems that this tire is not as sticky as the MX

Granted it costs less and will probably last longer, but I need to stick in the corners and wear isn't a great concern for me. I don't like to waste monery, but I like to spend it wisely.

I am going to stay with the MX

I did the same comparisons that you did. I live in FL and we get quite a bit of rain down here. The MX is supposed to be a great dry tire, but I've read in forums and test results they dont seem fair as well in wet weather.

The Kumho SPT's stack up almost identically to the Firestone Wide Ovals in Tire Rack testing . The WO's is supposed to be a great tire. This is based on forum members raves as well as Tire Rack reviews.

But Im trying to get a real life vetter to give me some real feed back. Because the Kuhmo's are so cheap if they perform well they would be a real bargain.

I decided on the Firestone Wide Ovals. Luke at tirerack confirms they are head and shoulders better than the Kuhmo SPT's. I too have scoured all thru the internet on the rave reviews on the Firehawk Wide Ovals, track and street.

Plus, somehow I can't bring myself to put some Korean tire on my corvette. I read way too many deeply mixed reviews with the whole Kumho line. And I don't want my tires turning to square blocks after sitting. Seems that Kumho's are famous for it; all models. Plus that soft sidewell scares me. Plus I feel 1000% better with a Japanese-owned, American made tire. Granted, the SPT's are the lastest result after 4 years of development. No matter, my decision is final.
