Default 18X8 and 19X9.5 on C5 is he crazy

I just got off the phone with one of the guys at Wheel Guyz. I found a set of cast (heavy) rims I really like. I was going to order a set of 19X8.5 and a set of 19X9.5. He said in order to make this work I would need a 225 series tire up front and secondly it would rub. He told me they have done a few C5's and the best setup is the 18X8 with 235's and 19X9.5. I wanted 19"s all around and have seen several people with 19X9"s up front with no problems. The offset on these rims is 38mm. Can I get any help. The rims are resonable and I think this will be my first set.

It doesn't sound like the guy at Wheel Guyz know what he is talking about, but I don't think that will be a big enough offset... they'll stick out past the fenders.

I replied to one of your other posts about the bolt pattern, but in case you haven't seen it yet, the C5 is 5x4.75 (or 5x120.65).

going with a narrower tire in the front on a car which already has a decent amount of understeer ..... makes no sense at all that is unless you are attempting to reduce the handling ability of the car

The problem is that they are compensating for the incorrect offset. Stock is a 17x8.5 with a +56 or so.

Been there,done that......
5x120 is for BMW.I did have Breyton wheels on my C5 but they were also for BMW.Had 9J in front with offset of 38 mm and 10J in the rear with 42 mm.
Had to take smaller tires because of the wheels sticking out of the fender.
(235 front 255 rear)Only lugcentric wich gave a huge inbalance when driving.....
If you get some wheels make sure that they are lug- and hubcentric.
BMW has the closest wheel pattern to the C5 but I sold the Breytons and put on some OEM wheels....WHAT A DIFFERENCE.
