Does anybody have any experience with OE whells from sarasota florida. $549.00 for a set of ZR1 chrome wheels with nuts and stems. Thats about half what other are charging. Good deal?
There are several members that have had good dealings with them. Just remember that with chrome wheels you may eventually run into a flaking issue. Make sure that you're getting at least a three year warranty on the chrome finish, otherwise pass them up.
That is what I'm worried about. Polished sounds like hard upkeep though, and I don't like painted. Here in NY we get some brutal conditions in winter, lots of ice, salt, etc.

I totally understand where you're coming from. The polished ones are hard to keep shinny and the chrome may/will eventually flake.. Even though I wasn't crazy about the painted ones I went that route to minimize time spent on the wheels.
How durable is the paint? Will it hold up better than chrome. Decisions, decisions. Anything would look better than my crappy looking wheels right now.

The painted wheels come with a clear coat finish which is very similar to the one on your car so with regular washing they should look good for a long time. The key is to remove the brake dust before it becomes baked onto the paint. If you drive your car everyday I would say that at minimun you should wash your painted wheels every two weeks.
I'll have to check them out. Love the look of chrome though.
Did you ever make a decision on the wheels from OE? Here's my question:
O E Wheels in Sarasota sells a set of 4 polished 17X9.5 ZR1 style wheels including the C4 logo center caps for a "Buy it Now" price of $395 + $120 S&H and $14.60 insurance. This seems like a good deal versus total cost for wheels from AFS or other vendors we've checked.
A friend in our Vette club with a very limited budget is considering them.
Any of you have any experience with this vendor and their wheels?
Do they also sell chrome plated ZR1 wheels? TIA, Bill
I bought a set of ZR-1 painted wheels from OE last year, couldn't be happier with them.
They are a bit heavy, but I knew that going in.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I have purchased two sets of AFS wheels (but not thru eBay). One set for my 92 vert was the chrome ZR-1 style and the chrome was excellent. They were on the car for 6 years before I sold it this summer. Just some good wheel cleaner and occasional wax on the surface and never a problem.
The other set is on my 87 autocross car and are the ZR-1 style 17" 38mm offset black powdercoated version. I use these wheels for track days and while they were "blems" I bought directly from the company, I was only able to find one extremely small blemish on one wheel out of the set. I paid $800 for them and that included the shipping on a phone order.
Neither of these sets were out of round nor did they require any lareg amount of wheel weights (Bridgestone Potenza's on the 92 and Kumho Escta MX on the 87). I am very satisfied with AFS wheels and I would certainly buy AFS wheels again.
Thanks! That was a good positive note. Anyone knows why House of wheels and Tomzwheels offer 3 yr and 2 yr warranty on their wheels, while AFS offers 1 yr warranty on Chrome....?

The warranty depends on the manufacturer. OE Concepts, for example, offers 1 year on the finish while Factory Reproductions offers 3 years. Both offer lifetime on the structure. In terms of quality, both manufacturers are excellent. We've been working with them both for quite some time and have only positive things to say. It's really just a matter of which company has the style you're looking for. Let us know if you have any questions. 1-866-939-1030

1. A lot of reproduction Wheels and AFS wheels are making the C6 style chrome wheels for C5s. What's the difference in quality and weight ? Some offer 3 yr warranty on chrome, some offer 1 yr. I'd like to know the difference.
2. I'm interested in C6 style (in chrome) wheels, size: 17X9.5 & 18X10.5. Also, I see you offer 18X9.5 & 18X10.5. (Factory recommends 17's in front and 18's in back). What would be the difference or advantage to go with all 18's ? I guess, what I'm asking is among these 2 different combinations, which would be beneficial in performance & looks, etc?
I bought a set of black ZR1 wheels from AFS for my 98 Camaro. They were awesome. I just saw the girl who bought the car from me and the wheels still look good 4 years after I bought them.

The wheels made by Factory Reproductions are manufactured to meet or exceed OEM standards. Their wheels are triple chrome plated and come with the 3 year warranty on finish as opposed to 1 year which is standard. FR goes to this length to stand behind its product. Weights are comparable though OEM's may be a bit lighter. This would only become noticeable perhaps on the track. But you also need to consider tire weights which can add or subtract from the overall weight. As for the advantages of doing a 17/18 combo vs. 18 all around it's a matter of taste in terms of appearance. If your first priority is performance, however, it would make sense to go with stock 17/18 combo as this is what is recommended. If you're interested in the FR C6 wheels in 17/18, we are currently offering them for $799 a set plus shipping. Look at ebay item# 8016212146 for a bit more detail. Let me know if this answers your questions.
Thanks,
Pete
