Default Nitto 555 any good.

I just got a C5, and I'm looking at these wheels.
I dont do any racing and this will be a daily driver.
Are they any good. I dont have alot of funds right now, so I need something "not expensive"

I have put over 60k on my set of Nitto NT-555s in all kinds of weather. As long as I keep the same size wheel, I will by these tires for the rest of my life.

I have over 40K on mine. I drag race, road race, open road race and have even autocrossed a couple of times and the tires still look good. I don't abuse them, just use them. I'd buy another set if these would wear out.

Just put some on and really like them. Less road noise and they handle better than EMT's. Wouldn't go back.

I guess y'all must be talking about the non R compound... on my 3rd set of Rs... never got more than 8K out of them (includes 3 or 4 HPDE's) but I absolutely love them... those huge tire blocks have great stick and yet are safe with a progressive loss of grip that also comes back quick....

However I found that they absolutely & positively SUCK in large puddles... especially when they pass 50% wear.... hence my avatar...

It's probably time I get a set of street tires & rims... getting expensive... and with the ridiculous downpours in S FL I should get some RAIN tires...

mine are doing very well. almost a year old and i drive the car very hard and have over 15,000 miles on them with almost no wear at all. handle better than the good year emt and supercar tires and are much quieter too. i would buy them again.

I have both the Nittos and the Goodyear GS-D3s. The Goodyears are much better. I have over 5k miles on them easy.

Discount tire is where I buy my tires, they have always treated me right. One of the nittos got a "knot" on the sidewall somehow, I called discount and they sold me the warranty 6 months after original purchase and sent me a new tire for free. The warranty for all 4 tires was cheaper than buying a new tire.

The goodyears provide more traction in all conditions, that is my main buying point. I consider it a "safety" concern. Plus, it's nice to be able to get a 1.8 60ft at my drag strip.

Sounds like the GS-D3s are a great street performance tire... just wish they had a bigger size in the 18s... really need at least a 295 for the rear z06 rims...

I understand, a friend of mine just had the same issue. We chose the Michelin PS2 instead for his Z06. The price is much higher, but it's worth it to keep the car pointed the right way.
