I know this has probably been beaten to death, but I'd like to get some specifics from those who have been in my situation.
I recently have traded in my 95 Admiral Blue roadster for a 01 Millenium Yellow roadster.
My wife recently hit a pothole rather hard and bent a rim. I found this ironic as this car has the original Goodyear runflats, as the car only has 13,000 miles on it. Who would have thunk that instead of getting a flat, you would bend a rim? Anyway I digress. I have found these Goodyear funflats to be LOUD, and rather uncomforable. I'm considering replacing them with other tires. The only thing I would prefer to keep with the runflat type since my wife does occasionally drive the car while I'm out of town and I would hate to see her get stranded without a spare.
So, my question is: What is the best runflat tire on the market with these parameters...
1. QUIET
2. nice ride
3. good handling in most summer weather (wet roads on occasion)
4. QUIET
Since I do not race this car, I'm not really worried about pulling 1.0g on a skid pad. I'd imagine any of the good tires will perform pretty much in my skill set.
Ok, point 2. How many of you have dumped running runflats?
How many regret that decision by getting a flat?
How many don't care because runflat ride so bad?
So, having my rant. What tires would one recommend for standard wheels and sizes?
Thanks in advance for the opportunity to pick your minds!
I am doing the same thing right now.Best place to buy and shop and compare is Tirerack.com. Just type in your car and it will tell you all you need to know.Kuhmo makes a runflat that sound decent and will give you some grip.I am going to go with non runflat Kuhmo MX or Nitto tires for the good grip and wet traction both. and just carry a plug kit and compressor . I have set of runflats factory goodyears with probaly 1000 miles on them I might be selling after I get my new ones.
I had the same problem. I decided on dumping the runflats for the Kumho Ecsta ASX(non runflats). What a huge difference. They were $525 shipped to Goodyear store by me. They are so smooth and quiet. I hardly feel any bumps and they no longer feel like they are caught on train tracks. I hope I don't get a flat but I have towing coverage through my insurance policy. For the price these are hard to beat.
I've heard some good things about Kumho before. I probably should mention that I'm not going to base my decision because of price alone.
I really want to know who makes the best runflat, period based upon my criteria that I posted.
Also, if no one makes a runflat that is quiet and comfortable, then I will consider a non-runflat.
How do the Kumho's compare to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S?
Again, I'm not overly concerned with price as any tire I do purchase is going to last me quite a long time as I don't smoke 'em and I only put a max of 6,000 - 10,000 miles a year.
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S might last longer then kuhmo's but dont think they will stick as good.I know someone with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S? on his 99 vert and its a daily driver with lots of miles.

That's kind of what I figured. I know the technologyis evolving though. From what I've read elsewhere, the Firestone Firehawk runflats are supposed to be a lot better. I was hoping to hear from some people that have tried the the Firestone tires on their vette.
I've found from past experience that the "stickier" the tire, the noisier they tend to be. So, I am quite willing to sacrifice some performance for a quiet comfortable ride, preferably with a runflat type tire.
I'm getting Michelin Pilot A/S runflats installed today. Three other members of my Corvette club have gone to the Michelins and have nothing but good things to say about them. They are much quieter than the stock Goodyears and they don't throw the car sideways when you hit a road rut. They are spendy though.
