Default Another Size Question

1986 C4...what is the widest rim I can put in the back without having the tires stick out from the well or having to put flares on? I know about the adapter. I was looking in MAM catalog and found direct bolt on 11" rear but I think that might stick out and I am one that does not like that look. Thanks in advance
