Default Firestone firehawk wide ovals

Are these the replacements for the old firehawks SZ-50? Tradpatern looks like it would be a good performing tire, but there are no reviews on it, and I havent heard anything about firestone coming out w/ a new performance tire since their plant burntdown.

Not a bad price, if the tire stands up to what the ad says.

I see that they only offer 2 sizes of 18" tires. The 225 would be to narrow, but does anybody know that the 295/35 would be alright on a 18" x 9.5" stock rim? Almost an inch wider at tread than what came stock.

I posted about these some time ago. What I can tell you is to look at the actual width size in inches or whatever. Meaning I bought these and the 285's I bought for my rear are smaller width wise than my old 275 front SZ50's were.

For the money I don't think they're bad. They fishtale rather easily but VERY predictable. On most surfaces they make no noise when you burn out which for me is a good thing. They are not as good I feel as the SZ50's were but again for the price and looks I think they're OK. I don't like the looks of the Goodyears but they probably do perform better.

Here's the pics again...

275/40 front 285/40 rear. Look how skinny the rears look!

Yeah, those do look kinda small for a 285. This is what my goodyears looked like on the back of mine, mean as hell IMO.

Pic

I was hoping that they would be comprable to the old ones, ow well.

Are those 285? They do look bitchin! I have no idea what the heck is up with these so called "WIDE OVALS" what a bad name for something that looks so puny.

Oh well, I'll have fun burning them off.

Yeah, they were 285's. I have 275nitto RII's on there now and they look puny compared to the 285 goodyears.

Shaun, does that pic not have a little wide angle effect in there?

I have the GS-D3's on the LT4 and Wide Ovals on the Z06. I like the ride and quietness of the Wide Ovals so well that I am thinking seriously of putting a set on the LT4. Nothing wrong with either tire, really.

Dont think so. Here is a direct rear shot of them. Wheels are a stock sized 17x9.5 w/ 58mm offset.

I have the Wide Ovals on my 02 Z06. Have run them at High Speed DEs at Roebling Rd, Nashville Superspeedway and Putnam Park road courses as well as several low speed auto-cross events. The W/Os are for real. They hook up much better than the F-1 Supercar and Michelin PS tires. They make them in Z06 stock sizes which is good if you run stock class in NCCC events. I wouldnt have any other tire.

So far so good on mine Ron. I guess I'll try them out for real at the Wick's get together. (I gotta get my check in the mail).

I understand Deborah was boiling the fluid out of her clutch cylinders.

Looks like the wideoval is the same as the bridgestone RE 750. Makes sence, other than the fact that the wideovals are 30bux less a piece.
